At Chrisland University's Department of Public and International Law, we offer rigorous academic programmes designed to provide a deep understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of the law. Philosophy and Objectives of the Department

Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is conceived to achieve the goals of the university by providing a first class academic and research environment where the legal needs of the society and mankind in general are paramount to the achievements of the university, law does not operate in a vacuum thus, all human activities social , economic, political take place within legal framework. it is therfore essential for the students of law to have a broad general knowledge and exposure to other disciplines within the socio-legal milieu and folllow through in the acquisition of legal education. The programme is aimed at producing graduates who can adopt technology in critical analysis in addressing the legal needs of the society and faciliatating policy beneficial to mankind

Objectives

Its philosophy is informed by the need to :
i. create an atmosphere of academic freedom for deep exploration of mind and matter as well as the expansion of the frontiers of legal knowledge for proffering solutions to legal issues both for the individual and the society, and for advancing legal studies, academic advancement, mental acuity.
ii. nurture a culture of research that defeats the age long practice and reliance on opinions, prejudice and anti-intellectual tendencies that dominate the public sphere in many developing societies and dim the light of development and social justice;
iii. provide legal education that makes young law students better prepared, spiritually strong, intellectually capable, and professionally competent to operate with distinction in legal practice and diverse areas where lawyers are relevant;
iv. build up a new generation of law graduates in order to improve the standard of legal education through the extension of opportunities, entrepreneurial skills, value re-orientation, and the addition of value to all aspects of individual and legal life; and
v. foster a pragmatic link between the College of Law, the Bar and society at large through citizenship training, community service and continuous legal education.

To achieve the outlined objectives, the CU programme would introduce students to the general rudimentsof Law, acquaint them with principles of judicial process and equip them with the basic tools of legal analysis
